Is the eye test at Optimax Vision really free?
Yes. The eye test at Optimax Vision is free, and it is done by a qualified optometrist. There is no hidden test fee and no pressure to buy glasses afterwards. You are welcome to take your result and think about it at home.
Many people hesitate to walk in because they assume a “free” test comes with a catch. Here is exactly what happens, so there are no surprises.
What happens during the test?
The test has two parts, done one after the other.
Step 1: the computerised check
You sit in front of a machine and look at a small picture while it takes a quick reading of how your eyes focus. It does not hurt and it takes only a minute or two. This gives the optometrist a starting point.
Step 2: the manual test
This is the part most people remember. The optometrist places trial lenses in front of your eyes and asks which view looks clearer, “one or two”. Your answers fine-tune the starting point from the machine into a final prescription. A machine reading alone is never the full picture, which is why the manual step matters.
How long does it take?
It usually takes about 15 to 30 minutes. Children, first-time wearers and people who are unsure of their answers may take a little longer, and that is perfectly fine. Nobody is rushing you.
What should I bring?
You do not need an appointment checklist, but a few things help:
- Your current glasses, even if they are old or scratched
- Any old prescription or eye test slip you still have
- Your contact lenses or their box, if you wear them
- A note of any headaches, tired eyes or blur you have noticed, and when they happen
Old glasses and slips let the optometrist see how your eyes have changed over time. If you have nothing with you, that is fine too.
Am I obliged to buy anything?
No. The test is yours to keep. If you like what you see, you can look at frames and lenses with Prakash Darji, who has 25 years of experience in eyewear. Spectacles start from Rs. 499 (frame + lenses). If you prefer to go elsewhere with your prescription, that is your choice.
How often should I get my eyes tested?
A general guide is every one to two years, even if you feel your vision is fine. Test sooner if:
- Things look blurrier than before
- You are squinting more at the board, phone or road signs
- You get tired eyes or headaches after reading or screen work
- Your current glasses are more than a couple of years old
Children often need checks more regularly, since their eyes and habits change quickly.
What if my eyes seem to be getting worse?
An eye test checks how well you see and what lens power helps. It is not a health examination. If you notice sudden changes in vision, eye pain, redness or flashes of light, see an eye doctor without waiting.
